How Does a GEME Composter Actually Work?

GEME is designed around the same biological requirements that matter in aerobic composting: microorganisms, oxygen, workable moisture, suitable temperature and physical contact between microbes and organic material.

The difference is that the appliance helps manage those conditions inside an enclosed indoor chamber.

  1. Suitable food scraps enter the chamber. The material becomes new feedstock for the resident microbial community.
  2. Kobold™ microbes release enzymes and metabolize organic compounds. Biological decomposition begins and continues inside the active bed.

What Does Kobold™ Do Inside a GEME Composter?

Kobold™ is GEME's microbial ecosystem. It provides the living organisms responsible for biological decomposition inside Terra 2 and GEME Pro.

Those microorganisms do not work because the appliance mechanically destroys every food scrap. They work because they are maintained in a chamber where oxygen, moisture, warmth and physical mixing support microbial activity.

Why Is a GEME Composter Continuous Feed Instead of Batch-Based?

Household food waste does not appear once every eight hours. It appears while making breakfast, preparing lunch, trimming vegetables, clearing dinner plates and cleaning the refrigerator.

A continuous-feed kitchen composter is designed around that pattern.

Instead of requiring the user to completely empty the chamber after each cycle, GEME keeps an established microbial bed inside the machine.

That means new food can enter a living system that already contains:

What Comes Out of a GEME Composter?

GEME's output is best described as Compost Base: moist, biologically active decomposed organic material intended for responsible soil use.

Because GEME is continuous feed, the chamber can contain material with different residence times. A harvest can therefore include some larger pieces that entered more recently or simply need longer to break down.

The practical workflow is:

  1. Harvest Compost Base when appropriate for your system.
  2. Screen obvious larger unfinished pieces.
  3. Return those unfinished organic pieces to GEME.
  4. Mix the finer Compost Base with plain soil at approximately 1:8.
  5. Cure further when appropriate if you want a more mature material before use.

GEME Compost Base should not be treated as pure potting soil and should not be used 1:1 as the entire growing medium.

How Does a GEME Composter Control Odor Indoors?

Odor control in a microbial indoor composter is not just a matter of putting a lid on the food.

Aerobic conditions matter because insufficient oxygen combined with excess moisture or overload can allow undesirable anaerobic activity to develop.
