The best part about this machine is that no one knows I have it. There are NO smells or noise coming from it. The motor hums about as loud as the old desk top computer I am writing this on, you don't even notice it. There are LESS fruit flies than I used to face because there are no longer scraps on dishes waiting to go in the dishwasher. We scoop the scraps right into the GEME composter when we are finished with our plate. Where I live near the woods outdoor composting tends to attract critters. With GEME I can compost sink free indoors and when I put it out in the garden to amend the soil it seems to be processed enough that it does NOT attract the critters. I have had my unit for over 9 months with no problems.

I have been using this compost unit for around a month. I am not sure how much it holds but I’m not full after one month in a single person home.
The durability and quality is very good. The outside and composting components internal are metal. I estimate it weighs about 20-25 lbs empty so take that into account. It doesn’t take up much space however there are vents on the back of the unit which cannot be blocked so you will need to have adequate air space and cannot put it flush to a wall. The unit so far is oderless. I have not needed to clean it but I don’t think it will be eat to clean the inside. If you’re looking for a high capacity durable machine this will bring a good value for the money.

I am giving 4 stars strictly for the lack of removable compost bin because you make a mess removing it and you have to leave some starter. I have another smaller countertop unit and I prefer a removable bin.

Spacious, easy to use & fairly quiet - I have been adding scraps almost daily for 3 weeks and have yet to fill. It's not absolutely silent, but it's pretty quiet overall. No issues with smell unless left unplugged for several hours and once plugged back in, the filter clears up pretty quickly. I like everything about this unit.

I am happy with the GEME Terra II overall. It is relatively quiet—the noise level is similar to that of a regular household fan—and it runs 24/7. It often transitions to an "Eco" mode when it is not in use. However, the included paperwork lacks details explaining what "Eco" mode actually does or how much wattage the unit uses, which leaves you guessing and concerned about the possible negative impact on your electric bill (I believe it averages around 70W to 110W during regular operation, but it would be nice if the manual clarified this).
As someone who owns numerous air purifiers, I notice a slight earth-type odor, but nothing too strong. The size is great as it sits neatly on the floor in the corner of my kitchen.
However, there are a drawbacks worth noting:
The Viewing Window: While the unit has a viewing window, it is always completely dark inside, making it impossible to actually see what's going on, check if the paddles are covered, or check the compost level without opening the lid. A simple internal light controlled from the panel would be a massive improvement.
Despite those few issues, I am happy with the performance so far!

As someone who works from home and has zero patience for complicated gadgets, the Terra 2 has been amazing.

I got this because we do a lot of cooking at home and we have a garden, so maintaining compost is a perfect way to make all those scraps useful and keep our garden healthy.

In the past, we have kept a compost bin, but we have been very inconsistent about maintaining the right moisture levels, etc., sufficient to make it work well.

This is a fantastic machine, and it makes composting idiot-proof. It is large enough to hold plenty of compost, and you don't have to empty it very often at all. And it makes enough compost that it can make a real difference in your garden. At the same time, the footprint really isn't much different than the smaller models that are available, so it's a no-brainer to have this capacity if you can use it.

It is super simple to use and maintain. You just push a button and a motor opens or closes the lid. And it has a nice sticker that you can put on the side that reminds you what kinds of things you can put in it (which is most, but not all, food items you normally eat). You just dump in your scraps and unused leftovers, and it does the rest for you. It will let you know when you need to add water (which is occasionally necessary), but otherwise it is set-it-and-forget-it.

It turns your food scraps into compost very fast -- many times faster than our outdoor compost bin. It maintains the perfect temperature to keep the bacteria going at full speed. And the quality of the compost seems very high.

The machine is extremely sturdy and rugged. You would have try to break it. There aren't that many moving parts, and I expect this to last a long time.

It's about as nice-looking as you can want for a composter. It does not smell at all unless you open the lid, and even then, it's not an unpleasant odor and you would only smell it if you are right next to the composter with the lid open.

At this price point, I think this is a great machine. Admittedly, there are smaller and cheaper units on the market, but this one delivers a lot. We're very happy with it.
