Quick Answer: Will a Floor-Standing Electric Composter Fit Next to Your Cabinets?
It fits only if the location passes six checks:
- the appliance body fits the available floor footprint;
- the required airflow space remains open;
- the lid can open fully without hitting a counter, shelf or cabinet;
- you can stand in front of the machine and load or harvest comfortably;
- a suitable power outlet is practical to reach;
- the machine can physically travel from the delivery point to the installation location.
For GEME Terra 2, the closed body is approximately 297 mm wide × 437 mm deep × 566 mm high.
For GEME Pro, the closed body is approximately 320 mm wide × 455 mm deep × 665 mm high.
Do not use the closed dimensions alone as your installation dimensions.
1. Start With the Actual Machine Dimensions
The first measurement is the easy one: the physical body.

If your available gap measures exactly 297 mm wide, Terra 2 does not have enough installation space. You still need airflow and working clearance around the appliance.
2. Add the Required Airflow Space
The current GEME user manual instructs users to install both models on a hard, flat surface and to leave at least 10 cm / 4 inches of space around the machine for proper airflow.
That changes the buying calculation.

Using the same 10 cm rear-airflow allowance:

- GEME Pro: 45.5 cm body depth + 10 cm rear clearance = approximately 55.5 cm from wall to the front of the body.
These figures are planning examples derived from the current body dimensions and the manual's 10 cm airflow rule.
A normal open-front kitchen location is different from a fully enclosed cabinet niche: open surrounding space can provide airflow without every side being physically bounded by a cabinet wall.
3. Do Not Forget the Lid-Opening Zone
Closed height is not the same as usable height.
You need enough clear space above the machine for the lid to open fully without striking:
- a countertop overhang;
- floating shelf;
- drawer;
- cabinet door;
- radiator ledge;
- window sill;
- or another appliance.

So the correct check is functional: the planned position must allow the lid to complete its full opening movement without touching anything above or behind it.
If your planned position is under a low fixed shelf or directly beneath a worktop, treat the location as conditional until full lid movement is confirmed.
If the space is open above, this problem largely disappears.

5. Three Kitchen Examples: Would GEME Fit?
Example A: Open Cabinet-End Position
Available space:
- 56 cm between fixed side surfaces;
- 62 cm from rear wall to acceptable front edge;
- open above;
- nearby wall outlet;
- wide doorway and straight approach.
A conservative two-sided airflow planning width is approximately 49.7 cm for Terra 2 and 52 cm for Pro. Rear-gap planning puts their front edges at approximately 53.7 cm and 55.5 cm from the wall.

Example B: 50 cm-Wide Pantry-Side Niche
Available space:
- 50 cm between two fixed side panels;
- 60 cm depth;
- open above.
Terra 2's conservative two-sided planning width is approximately 49.7 cm, making this a very tight but mathematically possible fit.
Pro's equivalent planning width is approximately 52 cm, so this location does not satisfy the same conservative clearance calculation.
Result: Terra 2 CONDITIONAL · Pro FAILFor Terra 2, measure again rather than trusting a nominal 3 mm margin. Real kitchens have skirting boards, uneven walls and trim.
Example C: Plenty of Floor Space, but a Low Shelf Above
Available space:
- 70 cm wide;
- 70 cm deep;
- fixed shelf above the machine;
- body dimensions easily fit.
This still does not automatically pass.
The shelf must allow the lid to complete its full opening movement. Because the current public specification does not provide a verified single open-lid height for either model, do not convert the closed height into a guessed answer.
Result: CONDITIONAL until full lid movement is verified6. Measure the Route to the Kitchen, Not Just the Kitchen
A machine that fits perfectly beside the cabinet is still a problem if it cannot get there.
Walk the delivery route with a tape measure.
Checkpoint 1: Exterior Door
Measure the narrowest clear opening with the door actually open. Do not use the nominal door-frame width.
Checkpoint 2: Hallway and Island Gaps
Pay attention to:
- radiators;
- door handles;
- island overhangs;
- stair rails;
- shoe cabinets;
- baseboards;
- and furniture that narrows the route.
Checkpoint 3: 90-Degree Turns
A straight doorway may be wider than the machine while the turn immediately after it is not.

Do not design the move-in path with a millimeter-perfect margin. You still need enough room for hands, controlled movement and real-world wall irregularities.
7. Power Access and Daily Working Space Matter Too
The GEME manual instructs users to place the machine on a hard, flat surface and connect it to a suitable power outlet.
A technically available outlet is not necessarily a practical outlet.
Avoid choosing a location where:
- the cord has to cross the normal walking path;
- the plug is difficult to access;
- the machine sits in a wet zone;
- the cord is pinched behind cabinetry;
- or access requires moving the composter every time power needs to be reached.
Leave Human Space, Not Just Machine Space
You also need to be able to stand in front of the composter.
Ask:
- Can I open the lid while holding a bowl of scraps?
- Can I look inside comfortably?
- Can I remove Compost Base when needed?
- Can I clean around the machine?
- Does the open lid block a drawer, pantry door or refrigerator?
If everyday use requires moving the appliance first, the location probably is not as good as it looked on the floor plan.
8. What If Your Planned Location Fails?
Do not force the machine into the original location.
Footprint Fails
Try a cabinet end, refrigerator side, pantry edge, island end or another dedicated floor position.
Lid Fails
Move away from low shelves or counters. Open vertical space is usually much easier to work with.
Airflow Fails
Do not solve the problem by squeezing the unit more tightly. Choose a position where the manual's clearance can be maintained.
Power Fails
Choose another location with practical outlet access rather than turning the cord into a permanent obstacle.
Move-In Route Fails
Check whether another entrance or route works before concluding that the kitchen itself is unsuitable.
Pro Fails but Terra 2 Fits
Only step down to Terra 2 if its up-to-2-kg/day capacity also matches your household. Space should not override capacity.
